And the HTP-1 has some incorrect behaviors, e.g., when playing Blu-Ray DTS-HD Master Audio quadraphonic recordings that lack a center channel, Dolby upmixing completely ignores the two LS and RS back channels and creates surround output to all speakers derived only from the L and R front channels -- so you miss hearing half of the music.
The HDMI board is - like most things in the HTP-1 - made by Momentum Data Systems. As long as they don't even announce an upgrade, I don't think it's imminent for the HTP-1. The "Official" Monoprice Monolith HTP-1 Owners Firmware 1.5.1 had this change, maybe JVC needs more changes: With the HTP-1 on and rendering audio from a source, disconnecting a TV or powering off some TVs would result in the loss of audio from the HTP-1 (assuming the source is still provided audio content). I'm not even convinced that any full featured 4+ in, 1/2 Monoprice HTP-1 will be amazing and you would not hear a huge difference with Macintosh. I use Arcam AVR20 and that is an amazing unit now after most of the bugs being fixed. Maybe you can look into Arcam/JBL/Audiocontol as well?
I played a -120 dBFS 1000 Hz test tone through the HTP-1 and heard it through my speakers without any issue.
